The smooth transition from one note down to another, the sound getting lower and lower, slower and slower…

A final high-pitched, echoed screech, thinning the texture of the sound to an eventual inexistant noise.

The passing and fading of mixed vibrations follows… mumbles, overtaken by sudden loud outbreaks of noise, all heard alongside the steady ‘clack, clack, clack’…

‘Ding’ — sound is closed in and is once again at ease…

From the silence, an echoed crescendo begins to fill the space, smoothly transitioning from one note up to another, the sound getting slowly higher, and becoming slowly more distant until completely faded away.

A low drone is heard nearby. It’s volume rises and falls as it gets closer, then moves away. It’s pitch rises and falls as it eats more or less grass. Pitched plosives are coming from all around; filled with excitement, anticipation, sadness, or just the monotony of everyday life. Some are louder than others; some are more distinct than others, yet they all blend in a carpet of noise. A steady pulse of short, high-pitched noises get louder and louder and as the sound passes in front of me, it begins to get softer. There are lots of steady pulses radiating from all directions; some are louder than others, and range in pitch and tempo. An assortment of noises can be heard from another direction; bangs, clanks, swishing, and again, more pitched plosives. From above comes another drone; a low rumbling of air which grows in volume, and then fades away again.

Hey, I’m Sean Tinnion. I’m a Certificate IV in Composition student, first year. I was born in Liverpool, England in 1992 and moved to Perth, Australia in 2004. I attended Safety Bay Senior High School in Rockingham and graduated Year 12 in 2009. I love listening to quite a wide range of music. Mostly Hip-Hop, R&B and Techno. But also like Pop, Soundtrack Music and some Rock (nothing screamo or anything in that catagory).

I started playing the piano when I was 4 years old. I started piano lessons when I was 7 but stopped at age 11 because my teacher left and I moved to Australia. When I got here (age 12) I started composing music. My music is very similar to what you would find in movies, (soundtrack). I always base myself on the famous film composer, “James Horner” who was the composer of the movie “Titanic,” because I was inspired by him. I have 4 completed albums and currently working on my 5th. I have sold most of my albums at school concerts and occasions and also to quite alot of people around Australia, U.K, U.S.A and Canada.

Im a pretty up beat person, love going to parties, socialising with everyone and obviously composing and playing music. Here is a few tracks of what my music sounds like. Chrysalis and Fantasy are tracks off of my last album “Chrysalis” and Utopia and A Heart Of Courage are tracks off of my latest album “Utopia.” Hope you enjoy my music. Leave me some comments and let me know what you think. :)

Oh and by the way, my music is not all done on a computer program. All the sounds and melodies and music are all played individually by me on my Yamaha Keyboard

Chrysalis

Chrysalis is the main track for my last album “Chrysalis.” I have performed this piece at many occasions, such as school graduation at Mandurah Performing Arts Centre and Safety Bay Seniour High Schools 20th Anniversary.

Fantasy

A Heart Of Courage is a piece I wrote for my latest album “Utopia”

All of a sudden a shrill song that starts, stops and has no conceivable structure except it has ghostly tones. I feel this bizarre melody has some affect on another rhythmic song, or perhaps it is related to the murmur. Every so often I can hear pleasing frequency sweeps, that are only very brief. Also I sense exhausting mechanical whirs appearing behind me on the other side of a wall.

Droning noises of different pitches pan from left to right and right to left. The amplitude of each drone reaches its maximum when the sound is directly in front of me. The drones arrive in front of me at different speeds and intervals which sometimes overlap or pass in unison. Each individual droning noise has its own pitch with multiple over tones of higher frequencies resonating above the most distinctive tone. A particularly loud drone pans past my center but is interrupted by a k-schtink sound and then continues, steadily rising in pitch. To my left I hear a blip blip blip sounding at a high frequency at regular fast paced rhythmic intervals.

There is a constant rhythmic pattern that is weaving in and out of focus as the slight banging sound becomes more and more prominent from behind me. The air is filled with an all round soft murmur which is accompanied by a clicking sound coming from beside me. There is a really faint tapping pattern of four beats filling my left ear, it is fast however the accent is on the last two beats. A mild screeching sound is coming from directly in front of me and it is clashing with a soft cooing of another source. The harsh dissonance makes the soothing rhythms from before harder to hear, and all the other soft murmurs from before have become a loud clashing chorus. Suddenly a small chime fills the air and the dissonant noises from before shift our of my hearing range.

My ears perk at the slowing of the humming as a crackle and sizzle interrupt the duo. Suddenly, a piercing screech intertwines and completes the quartet of these clinks, sizzles crackles, hums and cries that render my mind open.My mind has been assaulted by a dream that will not sleep, for it is the first day of the world, and I am free. These attacks of sound that cry out for help from the modern day Mephisotopheles.

There is a low crescendo and a decrescendo; they come close then pass me by, continuing on their journey over the horizon. Each is irregular and different; changing the time signature and rhythm. Flapping in the wind provides a percussive background support that is both gentle and relaxing. It’s increase and decrease in volume is different to the volume change that I get from the others, creating a cross current that washes over me.

The gentle pita-pata coming towards me from the front adds a soprano line to this percussive ensemble. Fading in and out of their respective parts at random time, creates a washing over effect then it is reeled back in while another part washes over you. This cross current is gently rocking me to sleep …

…

A low crescendoing rumble coming from the distance wakes me from my trance. And so my wait is over. It’s time to go to uni.

As I sit on the floor in our lounge room, sounds can be heard from all directions. A banging noise; high pitched clanking sounds, and low pitched thuds resonate from one side of the house. Rhythmic noise filled with harmony and beats can also be heard from another. On the other side of me, noises of congestion; pitched plosives, drones rising and falling and more rhythmic noise, this time in the background; all of which are coming from one specific direction. From another direction comes a loud thud, followed by a jingling sound, two more thuds, and then a constant heavy beat, which gets closer and louder and then stops. More plosives can be heard; loud and filled with many different pitches. From another direction comes a high pitched yelp, followed by a soft scurrying noise, which stops as a high pitched, sliding noise is heard followed by a loud thud. More high pitched yelps, before a single noise can silence all the other noises: “Dinner’s ready”

Quiet, broad echoes are coming at me from all angles. Rustling and the general sound of undefined noise in the distance echoes through the open space, filling the air. There are short, sharp ascending tones occasionally emitted from down the hill below me. They seem amplified as they travel towards me and send little shivers down my spine. Occasionally, more than one ascending tone will sound at a time, often creating a diminished fifth chord, it seems. The way they ascend and trail off sounds quite mournful and lonely.

The low, muddied buzz coming from off to the sides is somewhat relaxing… it stays at a constant gurgling pitch. Occasionally, little sequences of varying pitch and rhythm float through the night from behind me. They are quiet and warm - I am drawn towards their source. Suddenly, in the distance I hear a roar and listen as the sound travels towards me and bounces off the buildings. It tears through the atmosphere and temporarily drowns out all other noise. But then it is gone as abruptly as it came, and the silence seems deafening until the short tones start up again and the night continues as before.

There is a constant rumble that comes from the distance, it’s not deep or overpowering, its not intensely light or barely audible, it’s a presence that is just… there. Now and again, this rumble rises and falls in pitch and volume ever so slightly and then returns to a rumbly drone. Every 15 minutes or so, I hear a single sound of multiple pitches held for about a second and a half over the rumble before it dies away, the single sound of multiple pitches isn’t really that loud from where i sit, it just sticks out like a nail sticking out of a roughly textured floor board. Not very far away I can hear a really High pitched ringing, it doesn’t change its pitch, it doesn’t change its volume and.it.won’t.stop. And somewhat closer to my window, I can hear a rustling sound, it becomes louder as it moves towards my general direction and softer when it moves away again, it constantly sweeps up and down in pitch and is accompanied by a clicking sound.

As I attempt to sit and listen to the more distant subtle sounds around me, my concentration is broken. Gone are the sweet, ever present staccato vibrations of the night. There are these interludes of irritating, questioning low frequency which are responded to with a mellow yet higher frequency. When it momentarily stops I try to isolate a gentle whir nearby, yet the sound is disturbed yet again by a loud blast of percussive nature. I attempt to resolve this irritant, but it is then replaced with a sporadic, airy, joyful sound with the dim murmur of nasal tenor. The vibrations return as the other sounds settle into quiet and I can relax again.

So overall a quite night by usual standards
