Jogging

Filed under: Field Reports — bobw @ 12:43 am

I realise now that what i hear around me doesn’t necessarily have to be purely external. I hear many things while I am alone. (not voices in my head).

All of these sounds occupy the lower end of my hearing and at most times I experience them more as vibrations.

While jogging I really push my body to its limit and subsequently a lot of blood goes to my head and i can get dizzy. I realised now that by controlling this i can become aware of rhythmic pulses  and beats that i never heard before.

Like an undulating surge of a gigantic machine. Rising and falling, crashing and banging. As my eyes weaken and become blurry i close them and focus on the sounds. Crush, Crunch, squeak these sounds distorted by the aches and pains that i feel in my legs create a magnified version of the inner workings of a giant machine.

I WAS jogging.

At first it sounds…(Acousmatics Project)

At first its calm. The sweeping motions of sound repeated create a relaxing atmosphere. With the creation of more top end by the addition of a singular grouping of sounds brings to life even more of the atmospheric feeling. This time, however the atmospheric feeling now incases much of your mind. Now with the addition of more atmosphere low tones added create a foundation on which the ears find and settle on. Then a swirl of volume hardly audible catches my attention and for a moment i focus on it, taking in its complexity. What i can here is not pure, the sounds i hear have a rusty edge like a bed covered in sand.

Final Project - “Darkness: Objects Passing in the Night”

Filed under: Field Reports — Sam Gillies @ 3:43 pm

The whisper of nothing as objects move around each other in an undefined space. The droning and grinding of the universe shifting eternally outwards as the small contributions of it’s slaves fade from history into the eternal black backdrop. The world begins and ends with a whisper.

Headaches and Crowds

After a Music Tech class, my head was positively throbbing, so I set out to find a peaceful dark quiet room (Which by the way, doesn’t seem to exsist at WAAPA -.-).

My ears were super sensitive to everything, but when I get migraines my vision goes particulary blurry and I can’t see very well, so this is what it was like:
Walking through corridoors and quads, and rooms I heard a constant vibration of noise, rising and falling as more or less energy was added/deducted.
Everything was on fine nerve point, it was like everytime a sonorous sound was created I could feel the variations in pressure in the air, and feel the pulsing of the waves.
Walking through the practice room area I heard pulsing of tones, getting louder and softer, and mumblind, monotonous conversations struck up by people walking around me.
When i exited the building I was hit by a sudden wave of ambience and mechanical vibrations.
If my head wasn’t so sore, I would’ve been able to appreciate my hearing experience considerably earlier than just recently.
